Continuing Anglican unity

I am overjoyed to learn that the archbishops of the three original Continuing Anglican provinces have signed a joint statement that they are working toward unity. The Most Rev. Mark Haverland, archbishop of the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC), issued a statement early this month in which he called on the other archbishops to affirm their desire with him that they strive together toward realizing the “unfulfilled hopes” of their common work. The Most Rev. Stephen Reber, archbishop of the United Episcopal Church of North America (UECNA), and the Most Rev. James Provence, archbishop of the Anglican Province of Christ the King (APCK), have now published their affirmation of this statement.

We must continue to pray for the unity of the Church, that as Christ himself prayed, we all may be one under the God the Father. This joint effort toward unity is itself an answer to prayer.

The ACC has intercommunion agreements with the UECNA and the APCK. The ACC-UECNA agreement was recently reaffirmed by the respective archbishops. To my knowledge, there is no such agreement between the APCK and UECNA, but believe it cannot be far off.

When they can all decide which part of the “old” they wish to continue, perhaps it will work. They are all continuing different agendas and one of them in particular thinks they are the ONLY true Anglicans. However, that particular body uses a missal instead of our beloved 1928 BCP and haven’t a clue about a simple service of Morning Prayer.

When I was in the UECNA, they were as close to the Episcopal Church pre 1963 as one could hope for. Alas, that too is long gone from our community.
