My health

Over the past two years, chronic fatigue and dysautonomia have rattled my brain and disturbed my body. A year ago, I began medical retirement from formal ministry. Brain fog has been heavy at times, limiting me from even praying publicly or reading Scripture aloud. On rare occasions, I’ve engaged in collegial and mentoring conversations, as strength and brainpower have permitted. Otherwise, I’ve been necessarily withdrawn from much of the fellowship of family and friends; even correspondence is difficult.

I pray for the restoration of my health. The Lord is merciful and of great kindness. Whatever the future holds, he has placed me in this time and circumstance for his good and wise purpose. The words of one of my past sermons come to mind. I am learning and relearning to be content with his will, his wisdom, his calling. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

When I am up to it, I hope to undertake a little writing, even if it is quite brief. If recent instances are anything to go by, a lot of revisiting will be needed to complete a few simple sentences. But there is something of God’s healing in this.

So, here begins another attempt at a weekly miscellany, while it lasts. Perhaps it’s not much, but maybe there’s a little I can share to be of help to someone else. Maybe there’s some help in it for me, too. I am blessed to be able to write even this. The Lord is gracious and kind.

  1. I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
    Revelation 3:8
